In his Senators debut, Cullen was shuffled throughout the lineup by coach Cory Clouston, who was searching for some natural chemistry to develop.
It didn’t happen as the Detroit Red Wings finally found the key to stopping the previously red-hot Senators in a 4-1 victory, handing the visitors just their second loss in their past 15 games.
“I couldn’t really generate much,” Cullen said. “They played pretty well, but we just couldn’t seem to generate any attack. It was not my best and it was disappointing to start that way, but fortunately we’ve got another one (Sunday, against the New York Islanders) and we can get right back at it.”
