There's no doubt Mike Fisher has had a busy summer.
In addition to marrying country singing superstar Carrie Underwood in July, Fisher also joined her on tour for part of the summer, held his summer hockey camp and somehow managed to fit in a little fun at his summer home in Peterborough, ON.
"The season will come quick enough that you've got to enjoy the down time as much as possible," said Fisher. "With every passing week I look forward to the start of the season a little bit more."
Over the summer Fisher has kept an eye on the moves made by the Senators and is excited about the signing of defenceman Sergei Gonchar.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him on the ice," said Fisher. "I think he'll make a big difference."
Despite his busy schedule Fisher has been diligent about his training regimen.
"I've been on the ice in Nashville and Peterborough and I try to be on the ice about two or three times a week," Fisher said. "I've worked with a skating coach and I had a trained that met up with me."
Fisher says he feels good and he's healthy, but still feels he has more work to do before the Senators open camp.
In the meantime he's trying to make the most of the final days of his summer vacation.
By all accounts it's been a very different summer for Fisher, but he's enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with Underwood. Once the season starts the newlyweds will look to make the most of any breaks in the schedule.
"We definitely look forward to seeing each other and spending time together."
