Senators done in by Ovechkin

The Ottawa Senators held Alexander Ovechkin in check until there were just 31.1 seconds remaining in overtime.

Not long enough.

The dynamic winger put a wrist shot through the legs of Senators netminder Pascal Leclaire at 4:28 of overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 3-2 victory on Monday night.

Another disappointing game for owner Eugene Melnyk, who was at the Verizon Centre, to watch as his team’s record drop to 0-2-1.

Ovechkin’s goal ruined Leclaire’s night. He was one of Ottawa’s stars until then, but the replays will reveal that Ovechkin’s goal wasn’t a very good one.
