The Senators saw a 1-0 lead go poof in a 1:26 stretch in the second period Friday night as the Blues scored three times en route to a 5-2 win at the Scottrade Center.
So instead of heading home with a split of their four-game road trip and sitting above .500, the Senators find themselves 9-10-1 at the 20-game mark.
Brad Boyes, with a power-play goal at 10:13, Carlo Colaiacovo, at 11:04, and Eric Brewer, 35 seconds later, did the damage for the Blues, as Ottawa dropped its third straight game.
Ottawa coach Cory Clouston wasn’t happy with the letdown, saying the Senators aren’t working hard enough and need to improve in every area of their game.
“It’s back to the basics. It’s a matter of following the gameplan for 60 minutes,” said Clouston. “They had a couple of individual efforts that beat us. We’ve got to be stronger on the puck and harder to play against.”
