Alex Kovalev joined hockey’s royalty Monday night and everybody on the Senators had reason to share in the celebration.
Not only did the winger surpass the 1,000-point milestone with a two-point effort, he helped lead the way as Ottawa ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Kings.
Jason Spezza’s sixth goal of the season — set up by Kovalev — at 11:19 of the third period turned out to be the winner. Kovalev earned his 1,000th career point when he opened the scoring in the first period with his sixth goal of the season. Milan Michalek scored in the second period for the Senators.
