The Senators' New Year's Eve celebrations were short lived.
Oh, they whooped it up after Daniel Alfredsson's goal with 71 seconds left in regulation time completed their rally from a 3-0 deficit. But a puck that escaped Alex Kovalev deep in the defensive zone led to an overtime goal that sent them home disappointed with a 4-3 loss.
Jakub Voracek's goal at 2:06 of the extra period squashed the Senators chances of taking two points home with them from the party. They were, however, pleased with themselves for claiming one trailing 3-0 with just over a minute left in the second.
"We worked hard. We showed a lot of character," said coach Cory Clouston.
"Three quarters of the way through the second period I think they had seven or eight shots on net. We're happy with the point, disappointed with the loss.
"It's a tough one to lose, when you have two or three real good chances in ovetime, before they scored," said Clouston. "That's a tough goal to give up, too."
