Mike Fisher is feeling pretty good these days, but not quite good enough to join his teammates just yet.
"I feel pretty good," said Fisher. "I feel like I'm getting close."
Not close enough though to be in the Predators lineup Saturday night when they host the New Jersey Devils.
Fisher has been doing everything possible to ensure that when he returns he will be at his best and that includes being patient enough to wait until the shoulder is strong enough to undergo the rigours of a long season.
"I've come back too early before and got re-injured," said Fisher. "I don't want to do that again. It has responded well of late. It feels pretty good when I'm shooting."
That's not to say that Fisher hasn't been feeling a little anxious at the prospect of getting back in the game. Watching his teammates in actions isn't that much fun for Fisher as he would love nothing more than to be on the ice with them.
"It's tough because I know we have some injuries and I would rather be playing than just watching."
There's no official timetable for Fisher's return, but he's hopeful progress will remain steady as he would prefer to get back in the line-up sooner rather than later.
For now he's enjoying cheering on his teammates
