In just a little more than a year in a Predators uniform, the message to Sergei Kostitsyn has been constant — “shoot the puck.”
With a quick and accurate release, the Predators coaching staff knew if Kostitsyn shot more, it would pay off with proficiency in the offensive zone. They saw the fruits of communication Sunday afternoon as Kostitsyn notched his first career hat trick to lead the Predators to a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames at Bridgestone Arena.
Kostitsyn took three shots on goal. All went in.
“He had three shots. It’s like 10 games for him sometimes,” Predators Coach Barry Trotz said. “He has a really excellent release, and we talked to him, just using that as a little bit of an offensive weapon.”
